Google's New Logo!
Over the past decade and a half you may have noticed that the logo of the world's most widely used search engine has changed a bit over the years. Now, I'm not talking about the doodles we've come to know and love, I'm talking about the actual logo.
Yup, that's the one. It's gone through a lot of changes since it was first designed but it still takes much after its predecessors in the Google logo family. If you want to compare the current design to any of the older designs (not including doodles) Google has added an interactive card to the search result of "Google logo history". This card features seven iconic versions of the logo and a snippet of information about the logo. Google also uploaded a video showing the progression of google as a tool that reaches cross-platform to millions of users in different ways. This video is entitled "Google Evolved"
Now, some of you may be wondering what the big deal is. "I mean, it's just a logo, right?" Well, yes and no. The logo is just a picture that sits on the screen and has no real purpose other than bringing aesthetic pleasure to our eyes when we see it, but at the same time, the logo is the first thing that you see when the page loads. It's what defines the website you've loaded. It gives you the comfort in knowing you've reached your 'Information Destination', your portal to the world, your gateway to knowledge. Also, the logo of a site really defines the direction a site is moving. If the logo of google looked exactly the same as it did when google began people would see our favorite search engine as a never-changing, dull and uninviting place to visit. Even though Google has dozens of products for numerous uses, you'd likely go without using them except when you absolutely needed to. But because Google has continually changed it's logo to keep up with the changes to itself and it's uses we feel compelled to look through the site to see what else it has to offer.
"So why are we doing this now? Once upon a time, Google was one destination that you reached from one device: a desktop PC. These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices—sometimes all in a single day. You expect Google to help you whenever and wherever you need it, whether it’s on your mobile phone, TV, watch, the dashboard in your car, and yes, even a desktop!" - Google Official Blog
